WD Black top HDD

June 17th, 2009, 12:04

I have tried every thing I know to recover data from any WD black top hdd, same problem every time - 3 hard clicks then the drive spins down.

I have tried:
heads swaps
firmware swaps
pcb swaps
spin I/C swaps
pulling out the platters and putting them in to a new matching drive case and using the original parts and also the new parts(matching #'s of course)
swapping the pre-amps

Any one got any ideas or info???

Yes. Wrong initial diagnose/method, and eventually you have to deal with alignment - which is anyway a PITA for everyone...
