Seagate Barracuda ST312223AS -Help

July 7th, 2009, 5:14

Seagate Barracuda ST312223AS
S/N 3KA1Z4LJ
P/N 9W4011-032
HDA 100263990
Config A2M-02
Firm 3:01

Two issues

1) not powering up - not recognised in Bios - TVS issue??
2) the second drive is being recognised in Bios though is asking to be rebooted again and again.

My tech friend is fixing this issue and recommended that I go to someone else to have the mod chip removed as he did not know which one it was. Having done so and they have no idea that a protection chip exists on a seagate that has led me here as I need to access the information contained on this drive. TVS Issues - is that is what he means by th modular chip that he was referring to?

As for the second issue if a IDE drive is installed then all is fine, though the tower will not recognise any SATA drives. any suggestions?? this all has occured after a PSU failure and has been replaced and now these issue

Any advise would be greatly appreciated so I can pass this on to him asap.

Cheers

:-)

Well, I've managed for several years without UDMA!!!

Until now that is, I've shelled out many €€€€€€€€€ and ordered an upgrade to UDMA last week, too many of the newer drives not supported by my current tools.

"Heath Robinson" solutions are too time consuming ;-)
