Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi
I have a 'dead' Hitachi 160GB Model: HTS543216L9A300 drive. No clicking but no spin up and no noise - not found by two systems.
I have just received a quote of £250.00 to recover the Docs & settings folder from a London (UK)-based data recovery company.
Can you guys tell me if this is excessive as it seems quite alot - more than the data is worth to me to be honest.
Many thanks fro any advice.

Seems like a fair quote if it's not spinning.

Janos..
Hi Friends,
We are here to give the answer not to PROMOTE any company or any lobbying..
as thats the open forum and anybody ask any questions ..
So please give the simple answer in a fruitful way...as please try to replace the logic card first with same part no and firmware and after that you cant get your data back or please revert ...as we are here with to recify the problems..
May be the person only want to grasp the knowledge ...
As to Grasp/Increase the Knowledge Base is not bad...
But please be share your knowledge ...

The quote seems fair on a unseen basis, our average recovery price is £249 + VAT but we offer a 20% hddguru discount.
Very difficult to quote sight unseen on vague symptoms, so it could be cheaper depending on how much work has to go into the recovery.

Hi Friend,
We are here for the solution or to promote the company /pcimage?????
As you are only here at Hddguru to promote your company...
With baseless solutions
As the question is for the proper solution ...
Please send your technical answer and not the commercial answer ...
As after replacement of logic card and the client didnt get the detection at hard drive may be the Read Write Head Stuck and not getting the proper flying hight..
Hi Friends ..May be my English is poor or not good but i just share my thougths through my experience...

Replace the PCB?
On Hitachi???

Do you ever seen any hdd before?
Replacing the pcb in notebook hdds can be more dangerous than successfull!
If the FW freezes caused by incompatible part in the ROM, the drive can "forget" to park the heads and the drive can stucked too even if it was a simple and cheap pcb problem.
So please don't suggest any harmful operation if you want to help to any people here...

Janos

In my experience that quote is very low.
July 19th, 2009, 15:01
Many thanks for your replies everyone.
The consensus seems to be that the above quote is fair but to be honest that's more than the data on it is worth to me, so I guess I'll just learn by the loss and buy a new drive.
Thanks again.

Hi..
Thanks to give very good answer and definetily we require this type of answer ..
But to replacement of PCB or logic card with same part no /firmware is not bad if the hard drive is having..
No clicking but no spin up and no noise - not found by two systems.
Ok friend.. what you will take the first step ..please describe ..or you are here to rectify the problem or to promote any company with great lobbying...
So kindly discribe the solution as if some client reach at Hddguru as that person also at the nearest to rectify the problems with his/her owns..
As Mr Jonos we are here to solve the problems at in very simple manner.. so dont be complicated....
But friend i am with you but we have share the knowledge in proper way and guide as per in technical manner..
As at this case every data recovery company first check the logic card or pcb or please describe the process what you adopt ...
or you want to make some fear about thease small problems at the clients /End users heart...

Hi Friend,
Please take the new drive with exact part no and replace your pcb first as thats good to recover the data ...and after that you didnt get any detection than just find your nearest data recovery company having good clean room enviornment with appropriate tools..as many times the Read write Head is only stuck or jammed with platters..
But if you dont have next facalities than dont open your hard drive your self..also please ask the company they are having this type of facality or not or if they dont have than dont give your hard drive...
Sorry Friend my English is not good but i just share my experience ...

Have you ever heard about NVRAM?
Its Hitachi Drive...
Don't prescribe someone in wrong way when you don't know what you are telling to gamble the drive data.

As YOU want, yes.

You should learn by somebody, even from any newbie.
Pcb replacement is HARM to the data sometimes.
Like i sad, the incompatible ROM content can freeze up the fw and can cause head stuckage as well.
The truth is, the proper way for diagnose usually is not for anybody because the most of the people (maybe like you) have no the proper equipment for do that.
Additionally it is different on models, like the causes on simply pcb swaps wich is works sometimes and wich is harm for the data sometimes...

Hi Before this you are here with these type of answers and lobbying to promote this company including yourself ... with unfruitful answers...
Are you here only with commercial way ??????
But i have to give the answers...
So i just share and if somebody comes and search this forum that person also rectify the problems at his own but we are here for good technical answers and not here with confused answers as i am 100% right and confident as thats the first step with my proper technical experience ...
As i know more than that but i just suggest and share...
Regards ...

Then suggest and share, instead of waiting for an answer that will never come.
