WD10EADS - Recovery.

I'm trying to do as much of this as possible on my own, but i think im soon going to have to go to an outside source to recover the data.
the 3 month old drive failed on me, a closer look i noticed the PCB had a burn mark through it. I ended up buying another one and trying to do a swap.. of course this didn't work. The DCM is different and my guess is this is why its not working. Am i doomed, should i look for an outside source to recover this data?

Not quite doomed yet, but the DIY attempt may have just cost you extra $$$ in recovery fees...

PS: where on the pcb is the burn mark?

why would you say it will cost me more now??

the burn mark is right over the solder point on the smooth chip.. a closer look and u can see 3 pins not attached anymore.

When you say "swap," you mean swapping the PCB, right? If this is the case, it is unlikely that you caused any increase in cost. If it means that you swapped the chip, then it likely means a higher cost from most labs.

This HDD is part of ROYL family, and PCB does not have external ROM making replacment of the electronics next to impossible without specialist equipment and knowledge.

Avoid removing the top cover as this will simply make a recovery more expensive and much more difficult, and send to a professional. Many outfits will give you a no obligation diagnostic service to give you a accurate price and estimation of data recoverable. I highly recommend you try one of these specialist companies.

by swap.. i meant, i just took out the 4 torx on the PCB and tried the new one.. it spun up, but drive was not able to read in windows.
the drives are the same model WD10EADS-00L5B1 but the DCM is different on both drives.

The one place im looking to ship it back to is oneworlddatarecovery.com i'm on a service plan with them.
having this data back would really nice. although i just never trusted any outside source with data. Even if its nothing of importance.

That should be a fairly straightforward repair, but yes, will require specialist tools etc. I'm sure some forum members could help if you wanted to ship out your drive.

Hey guys, i tried someone on the forum, with out success. Not their fault, just quoted me above $1500 before even opening the drive. Didn't want to be in debt for over a year over a few pictures that i will miss. I did provide a donar drive which doesn't seem compatible. Im now looking for someone that can do it at a nicely quoted price. Maybe by fluke they have that compatible drive.
