Hitachi travelstar 7k60 with stuck spindle: options?

August 5th, 2009, 6:47

Hi all,

My laptop's HDD crashed a few days ago. It is a Hitachi Travelstar 7k60, 60GB, 2.5" from 2005.

The laptop had an issue and woke up from doze mode while in this carrying bag. When I found it, it was really hot and with a BSOD. After a reboot, no HDD found in the BIOS.
It either had a shock or an overheating.

Symptoms:
not detected in the bios
no rotation at all
a slight "brrr brrr brrr" sound at startup, exactly like here: "Hitachi 60GB laptop drive with stuck spindle can't spin up, makes humming/buzzing noise."

I never had a hdd crash before, and need the data on this disk. What are my options to get my data? I assume I'll need to send it to specialized companies.

Any good address in Europe, preferably France? An idea of the price I'll have to pay?

Thanks a lot for your help
