Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

No access to data. Windows is starting very slowly with presence of disk. Disk detected as WDC ROM MODEL-TORNADO3. Trying scan with MHDD (see all "!") and trying to set HPA but no effect. Attached screens of Victoria.
On top cover is written:
WD5000AAJS - 22TKA0
DCM: DHNCNV2AHB
LBA: 976773168
Disk detected at Windows Device Manager after "Scan for nwe devices...". Recognized LBA by Victoria is wrong. How to set good capacity?
Is it translator modules damaged...?

firmware is bad or single head failure. beyond your capabilities.

Could also be PCB failure, which can mimic bad heads.

I think I've seen more of these come in clicking that ended up being the board than I have the heads being bad, especially the AAJS drives.

Have you investigated any further what exactly was bad on the PCBs?
Would this also be true for AAVS models?
