Hi, I have some problem with this disk. Motor starts but disk is clicking about 8 times and motor stops. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i suspect problem with electronic. Disk is seen in mhdd with 0LBA size. Terminal is not locked, and when I type U command it refers spinup error... What details should be the same on donnor disk?
Best Regards
Pawel

It's a disk of my close friend. He ask his employee to try to fix it. I suspect he smashed pcb (smooth ic) when he tries to unlock terminal - PCB is very hot. All I want to do is swap pcb resolder rom and check if I get the data or access to service area. One thing I'm afraid is that damaged preamp can destroy the donnor pcb, can I check if there is short-circuit using standard digital multimeter, or not?

more or less. U can check at least wether power lines are OK or shorted.

a diode on 12v line was s/c. I changed with the new one then I measured the motor voltages..of course I measured nothing. All of the pins of smooth chip are now s/c. I need a new SMOOTH 100369972 to change it. Anyone help me ?

And you want to change the combo IC ? The whole PCB is fried, you better try with new one and do what you have to do with PCB change....
