any known technique to make the heads stick to platters?

August 18th, 2009, 15:26

Does anyone know of a sure technique to make the heads stick to platters? I am looking for something more reliable then giving the drive a good smack.

Thanks

I guess somebody has recovered data and had a quote declined.

Try throwing it out of a window while is being erased, you will need a usb adapter and a long usb cable.

Trusting that it is for ethical purposes........why not just gently move the heads off the ramp and back onto the platters whilst turning the spindle with your other hand.

As far as ethics go, you should have some form of pre-authorisation in place so that you never get to the stage where you carry out work and then your customer declines the job.

CK,

Thanks for the reply. It is only for R&D purpose.

In other words I want to duplicate the scenario where heads are stuck to the platters solid. I need about 10 - 15 drives for testing. I don't think that moving the heads off and on to the platter will make them stick. I am sure you all know the case where the heads are stuck solid to the platters and you can not move the heads with conventional methods without damage. (yeah... the really solid stuck cases.)

Thanks,
