hdd not seen in bios or windows

August 28th, 2009, 7:13

new to this forum so firstly, hi to all. i know absolutely nothing about hdd, other than when formatting through windows or reinstalling my os, and no computer genius either, so hope someone is prepared to offer some advice. my wife's laptop blue screened and would not boot any more. to start with, the hdd was showing as being there, but no more. is it possible to make the hdd recognised again so i can reinstall the os (xp)? looked in bios and no option to change the type of hdd (sata to ide etc).

many tnx for any help offered.
