Helpdisc HDD Tools - Feedback

September 11th, 2009, 9:31

Hi All,

I wanted to post some feedback about the headcomb tools sold by Helpdisc in Serbia. Firstly, I have no affiliation with Nikola or Helpdisc but I believe in providing positive feedback where it is due.

I bought a set of headcombs for 7200.10 and 7200.11 drives and received them a couple of weeks later. Most of you will have seen photos of the tools on this forum and I can vouch for the quality of the tools. They are solid and well made. I tested them on a considerable number of test drives before 'going live' with them. I carried out a number of tests with them and was very happy with the quality and functionality.

I carried out a platter and headswap on a 7200.10 - 500gb yesterday and got a 95% good image of the drive, where a previous brute force repair attempt was unsuccessful. As you know, there is more to a procedure like this than just a headswap, but the tool removes the risk of head damage while removing and replacing the headstack. Swapping a headstack with 6 or more heads can be tricky, but the tool removes the risk factor out of this procedure. I recommend the tool for the seasoned professional or for a company with junior engineers.

The first live job has paid for all 3 tools, so I consider it a very worthwhile investment.
