Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I searched the forum and found some experiences others shared with regard to the RAID 0 used in the Premium II units. I have been having some difficulties in reconstructing the RAID 0 (2x500gb) .
it is definitely NOT JBOD as found in some of their units.
I tried many combinations and analyzed disks in Winhex, and now think that if it does indeed use "sector mapping" as others seem to suggest, this implies that perhaps it is more like LINUX LVM than true hardware RAID.

In this situation, striped data is mapped out in the firmware of the WDC drive RAID controller. Therefore, recovery involves repairing the controller (or perhaps finding an equivalent substitute); and fixing the component drives or cloning to identical model(s). Once that is done, the RAID is rebuilt using the original hardware -- I haven't found any third-party software tools that might accomplish it otherwise.
