Back with another Case: WD 1600AAJS

September 18th, 2009, 0:07

Hi happy people. I'm back because you are my new favorite people regarding Hdd and stuff like that. Recently i repair a hdd with your help and now i want to help another person but, well... can´t resolve.

This is the case: The HDD just stopped to work. Suddenly and without warning. No spin, no recognition, no nothing.

I was thinking "The TV´s Again???" well we live in a area with poor electrical conditions, and few people has the precaution of use a UPS for protection.

Well before i start to mess with the HDD Pcb i want your opinion if i´m correct with my diagnostic.

here are the reglamentary pictures.

Image

The damaged PCB. Ans you can see, everything is nice and with no sign of burning or damaged device.

A Zoom image of the area with the "d1" and "d2" i suspect are the Tv´s i suppose i have to remove.

The Data from the Hdd Front.

What you think/opine/advice people. I proceed with the remove of the D1 and d2 or the Tvs can be other "component.

Thanks in advance for the info.

try to measure the PCB components. like the IC motor controller
or the MCU, then put the results

good luck

Like unknown told u, check SMD´s Diodes, resistors, capacitors, MOSFET, etc i should start measuring continusly, check too if there are no shortcut , a good tips should be put +12v +5v from u PS and check if the power supply start up, if no there is a shortcut , and u need to find it, if spins u need to measure each SMD component, and check it another tip on this model u cannot replace PCB, ROM its embedded on MCU,
