Downloading hitachi microcode?

October 11th, 2009, 23:03

Is there any way to download the hitachi microcode from a functioning drive. That is to say an easy way. Every time I get half way to figuring it out, something bad happens. First my father passed away and two weeks later my fiance died too. I'm afraid to try again. I dont think I can deal with any more deaths at this moment. Uploading the firmware is not an issue. I been good here. I haven't given out any of your secrets to simple problems. Be nice. And yes, im totally drunk right now. :)

Working with hitachi microcodes is apparently not lucky for you..

let your father's and fiance's soul rest in peace and don't hurt them anymore by going further with this..

No you see why we say 'send it to a pro' messing with a drive's firmware can be very dangerous.

Well, you guys are nothing if not predictable. I dont have a faulty hard drive. Im just trying to learn how these things works. Ive already spend money on some hardware only to realize that these companies that sell the equipment just take stuff thats already out there and make it a bit easier for people to get started. Im not complaining, I learned a lot from them. I just dont want to spend anymore when I dont have to. And it sure doesnt seem like I have to for hitachi. I could be a dick and start naming stuff but I dont out of respect for the few people who did help me. I shared what I found with them.

Found what I was looking for anyway. My, my. So many nice features. One could almost fix their hitachi drives themselves.

Microcode and life facts are not related - I'm not superstitious. Sad to hear that you have lost important people in your life.
Back to microcode : you meant the microcode inside the Infineon chip (MCU) or other kind of microcode (i.e. on platters) ?
THe microcode on MCU - AFAIK and depending on drive families ! - can be both read and written, or you can make some patching (I assume you know how to work with Hitachi/IBM PCBs). I am sure you figured out what you were looking for by doing a slight RE on "readily available stuff" ;) if so, good work!! (always worked for me...) : it only took some time and no more money. Congrats. Ah, maybe you learnt the lesson : no more sharing with people who don't deserve.

I was kidding about the bad luck thing, Both my dad and my fiance were pretty sick. And the really were suffering. My girl had medical problems all her life and the last few months have been especially bad. When people get to that point they really do wish to just pass away. Part of me is happy that she isnt suffering anymore. And the other part misses her more than I thought possible. I was halfway to our room to tell her about my latest discovery only to realize that she isnt there...Between my father and her death I have been going to funeral services for a month now.

And I honestly dont know very much about ibm/hitachi drives. Im just beginning to learn how western digital and seagates operate. What I found is a really great way to start with hitachi's though. And it wasnt THAT readily available. Its the toshiba's that still scare me though.
