my sons loving mother got mad at me one day and slammed the lid down to my gateway 7811fx lappy. 4 hours later when browsing the net, it locked up. everytime i rebooted it would load vista64 fine but after about 3 minutes, lockup. so i took it to geeksquad and paid the $69 to have them diagnose it. everything checked out accept the hdd failed 2 of 5 tests. the geek said i would need a new hdd. he sid he could try to backup for $99. I said fine ill buy the hdd, but can i just hook up the bad one as a slave and access it that way, he says yes. so i did, and it has been reading and writing fine.
my question is, will i have any problems with the drive crashing and losing all the data on it now? are the bad sectors now being ignored and not written to, i think they were being used by vista when the hdd was hurt, but not now. should i use the hdd? or should i copy the data to my new one and throw it out? it is a 200gb 7200 seagate.

Copy data and stop using that drive or.... you will have to pay to retrieve your valuable data from that drive soon.
