seagate external hd mystery

October 19th, 2009, 0:01

quick history of situation and diag. up to date.

maxtor 320 external HD worked fine, then green light would flash. possible used the wrong power supply but dont know for sure.
tried on several computers no luck.
then removed the HD from the external case and put directly in computer case to see if external case power was bad. with it plugged in as a slave; the whole computer wouldn't power up. would unplug it and computer would power up. so im thinking it shorted out.
thinking the controller/circuit board on HD was fried i order one on ebay (sta3320620A firm 3.AAE IDE . screwed it on and now the computer will at least turn on with it hooked up.
but it does not recognize the drive. i dont know if im using the wrong jumper configs or what. even tried using a linux live cd to see if it would recolonize the drive. no luck

am at a loss at what i should do next.

any ideas or thoughts, thanks

skot

Search for TVS on this forum, it will help you solve this problem.

When you find the TVS, run a check on the item using a Multi-Meter!!! If the TVS was the problem, then you'll know what to do based on the previous posts on this forum!!!!!

Good Luck!!!
