I have a dead Toshiba MK8032GSX drive that doesn't get recognised by BIOS.
I was about to buy a working hard drive of the same type to try swapping PCBs or drive heads but then came across the this thread:http://forum.hddguru.com/toshiba-pcb-problems-t9839.html Since mine is the same HD and PCB as described in this thread as far as I understand it I would have to re-solder my BGA IC onto the working PCB in order to read my drive.
I estimate the probability of me doing this successfully is 1%. To get an exact replacement part means shipping one from the USA. Is there even a chance a new PCB will work without swapping over the BGA IC?
As a side question what is the component E1 in the picture of the PCB for this HD:
download/file.php?id=527&mode=viewI get an open circuit when I measure across it. Is this a fuse/resitor/capacitor/inductor or something else?

Does your drive spin up?
If it does, its less likely its a PCB problem.

No the drive doesn't spin up. It is also not recognised by BIOS. It just does nothing.
