Need to replace my Rework station, now looking for infrared

October 19th, 2009, 11:22

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good infrared bga rework station. Good and reasonable priced if this is possible :lol:
Altough I really like Hakko products I don't want to spend $20.000.00 for one unit. I know that some chinese company is flooding the market with utlra cheap BGA units, but I would have to question the quality. What are you guys currently using?

Thanks!

GOOD doesn't match REASONABLE PRICE on professional tools... My suggestion and favourite is always METCAL - if you have in mind quality and troublefree operation. Otherwise.... :mrgreen:

@quasimodo,

Good news... I have an alternative even if you are on a tight budget, and I know them because I have already bought their tools - they are not like chinese that disappear and then you don't find spare parts and so on... I have their digital SMD rework station and desoldering station (separate) since year 2000, and everything is still available (like Weller...) , eventually I had to change a complete desolder head (with glass reservoir and nozzle attachment) : readily available. Only a few hours downtime. Everything I need, from gaskets to nozzles to tubes, filters, felt filters for the desoldering station, glass reservoir etc. are ALWAYS available here and from my local distributors for a much lower price than - for example - Goot or Weller (that I still have). Weller may be better in quality and details, but this kind of equipment is "BlackST approved". They have BGA rework now, that is definitely another thing in comparison to MetCal , but the price is very different too. If you don't need certain features, you don't have to fulfill ISO or similar / other specs and you want a honest, working equipment without paranoia for spares, this can be an alternative. Contact me on MSN or leave a PM so I can give you some more details : what exactly do you need ?

P.S. It's Made in Italy (with pride).

Janos,
Thanks for the pm. Although I am on the other side of the world (at least for a few more years) I will get in contact with your friend to see what he has.

Just a tip if you are short on cash: There are some cheap ones on ebay for about $550 US. Chinese but i have tested and they are good enough to last 6-12 months (maybe more) but don't count on it lasing forever! Buy 3-4 and keep them as spares! Cheaper this way.
