WD740ADFD-00NLR1 Firmware needed

October 31st, 2009, 11:57

Firmware needed!!!

I am in need of firmware including resource file (loader), mod and ROM for WD740ADFD-00NLR1.

Drive was manufactured in Malaysia on Dec 12 2006.

SD would be my preference.

Thanks & I appreciate it as always.

PS: The PCB was damaged, so I replaced it and now I can see LBA 0 - 33,000 but everything else beyond shows bad sectors. Also, SD will identify it as 1 head drive but the ROM shows 2 valid surface at H2 & H5. I can read most of the MOD but MOD 21 shows ERROR. G-List had 1020 defects...

Have you tried to regenerate translator?

Remember if the tool shows you Heads 1 it actually means 2 heads. Head 0 and Head 1.

Also, I can't read any secondary FW even the headmap said this is H2 & H5... G-List looks a bit odd, too... Any suggession?

Also, it would be great if someone could share the FW!!!

Thanks!

Any Help Out There???? I'm still searching for the FW (Salvation)! If PC3K was the only thing, I'll give it a try also. Whatever is causing the drive to detect only 1 head...

Thanks!!!

I checked my database, unfortunately I don't have any matching FW for you.
You never mentioned if you checked Translator. Also, If your drive truly only recognizes 1 head, have you been able to image that head successfully yet?

Have you inspected the heads?

you drive has unstable H5 (I'm 90% sure)
I don't think there is anything wrong with FW
The fact that you actually can read SA means drive comes ready normally and that would mean SA is OK and drive sees both heads (so far)

About the utility showing only 1 head there is Russian saying: на заборе хуй написано, а там дрова. Translate it and you would understand

I just looked at some WD drives via SD tool this morning and found that the head listing in the "Load Managment" page and the head mapping on the "Rom Operation" page disagree often. This could be a bug in the latest version of the tool.

I agree with Doomer that H5 is most likely your problem

FW wise, there are problems with 21 and a few other modules. Trans regen didn't work... It gave me an error stating it failed. Contacted SD Tech but no luck... Hotswap wasn't success. It showed issues with SMART, so I cleared it and now it detects 1 head. No read or write via Secondary head. Can access LBA 0 - 33,000 but nothing beyond. drive doesn't click... I'll check the head now

One of the defect module list had a FW issue and would not read that module...
