Problems with service traks of Samsung HD400LD

November 16th, 2009, 8:08

Hello everybody,

I have a problem with one hdd samsung HD400LD that I can not read with Data extractor.
So, I did some tests with PC3k, SA modules are ok, heads are ok, rom is ok, is looked that everything is ok except the service track0 in the cyl. 0, it's shown after. Have I try to re-write this track?is it possible?is it useful?

Reading service tracks
Into folder............................. : <HDD Profile>\Data\Tracks
Composite reading
Read sector error (c: 0,h:5,s: 3)(PIO Mode data receiving timeout : device error detected (AMN))
Read sector error (c: 0,h:5,s: 4)(PIO Mode data receiving timeout : device error detected (AMN))
Cyl : 0................................. : Read with errors
Cyl : 1................................. : OK
Cyl : 2................................. : OK
Cyl : 3................................. : OK
Cyl : 4................................. : OK
Cyl : 5................................. : OK
............

In the Data Extractor is shown the Drive, with the ID, but not possible to search the MFT and NTFS structures. Any idea?

Thaks!

I use other way to access MC (correct name for the "SA" , "SERVICE TRACKS" etc.) ...

1) you need CORRECT content (modules)
2) MC must be OK (no errors).

To have 1) composite reading may help, also it depends on which modules are involved (some are unrelevant if corrupted or unreadable).

2) if the error is related to CRC, rewriting the sector will fix it. If the problem is physical, then something else is needed. It is risky to do it on patient drive.

Maybe you have to do something smart like prepare an identical drive and... ehm ehm.... you know... 8)
