Seagate 7200.10 - 500Gb Head Crash

Just to share this case:


Have disk disk with a head crash:

I clean the 3 platters, all they have a head crash in the PARK ZONE.

yes when i look at my case and see that went to other DR company and they did not want to take a try in the recovery they say can not do it.

So i will give a try

just curious to know how much data was recovered from the drive, looking at the outer end of the platter there is alot of scratches.
did you have to replace multiple sets of heads in the process.

like this kind of case. some drives can be recoverable. but had to pay more attention on scratch part.

I have had a few cases with scratches and grooves in parking zone, after head change data is accessible but the longer drive is powered and being accessed the worse the media gets. Eventually entire platter looks like the one in your image.

Im guessing data recovery from it in the condition it is in now is next to impossible...

How do you prevent the heads from being driven into the scratched area? Starting the drive with the heads parked somewhere else on the surface couldn't be solution, could it?

There is software solution but only for some times, and more different HW solutiions existing for the cases.

try modifying the limiting stop and see what happens.

Also a good idea of knowing what sectors are where on the actual platter is also good to know.

i also have same problem with seagate ST3160815AS it has one platter only parking area has scratch both sides up and down is it possible if i change parking area by putting something on head Actuator near to Voice coil.
