It's Seagate 250GB...has anyone had any luck retrieving data from platter damaged drives?

It mainly depends on the location of the damage.
It is not possible to determine without seeing and checking the drive itself wether it can be done, or not.
See
seagate-7200-500gb-head-crash-t14023.htmlI posted some pics there about a drive I recovered with severe platter damage.
