Seagate 7200.2 Momentus

Hey guys i have a little problem, i have a Seagate Momentus Laptop Hard drive with a ATA password i set overnight and i mistyped the letters and get in.
The security is set to high and i have it in my Desktop Connected via onboard SATA ports.

I want to keep the information, i just want to view the correct password.

I have done some research in the forums and it seems that brilliant people have manage to view the password from Western Digital HDD or convert from hex to decimal to get the hard drive unlocked.

What script do i need?
So what other programs besides MHDD do i need? Hex Editor? notepad?

This would be great if i can decode the password. Please i need some help!

Well i did some more research and some1 says you need a terminal com cable to connect to the HD to PC so you can read and Write to the Seagate HDD

SO do i need to build it?

Doesn't work like that for seagates.

PC3000 wont work, salvation data wont work because i checked for the supported HDD for Seagate and none support this old one.

does anyone know where I cant get mastid.exe? Also know was MasterID It runs like a command prompt where you put in your HDD Master ID and it gives you the master password

What brand Laptop did this 7200.2 belong to when you set the HDD Password?

Did you use Acer, Dell or HP/Compaq BIOS, or Sony to lock the HDD??? I'm sure one of your local factory authorized repair centers can reset the password for you with all the documentation to prove your ownership. As we have the software to do so if it was the manufacture's BIOS Poweron/ATA HDD Lock.

If you mistyped the password, just clear it and then set a new password instead of trying to find out what the real password is...

The story stinks a bit. ATA setting will almost always ask you to enter the password 2X before it sets it on the laptop. It sounds like you need to know the password to access to the drive without changing the original password so that the rightful owner won't notice. (For a legal cases, you need to contact a seasoned computer forensic firm to decode the password for you. Depend on which firm you go to but my guess is $500 - $1200, as long as you don't need the expert witness service.)

this was not very clever. If your drive was not a Seagate but rather a WD as you mentioned then the fix could be relatively simple. Unfortunately for you I do not think there is a simple solution that will help if you do not know the password. If the data is important then you really need to consider professional assistance. If you know the HDD is not defective and simply need the password removed, maybe there is someone close to you who can offer you a fair price.

You need to evaluate the value of your data at this point.

This belong to the New Laptop Gateway 7811 FX with a seagate momentus 7200.2 200 GB hard drive
i bought this at Bestbuy with the max warrant if anything happen. At this point i had to buy a new hard drive.
Of course i can prove that I am the owner.

When i set the password it was in the BIOS and its in High Security.
I typed the password late night, and im not a very good typer but i usually type fast without looking. Ill make sure this never happens again with a password like this.

BTW i called this company here in Miami that they have many locations where you leave the hard drive with documentation and then they give it to a computer tech guy.

They called me and said its very cost efficient an will give me an estimate. Price range is about $50-100 dollars he said. he said "will take a look at it and brute force our way in if we can" and the lady said that shes gotten into it. .

So i dont know how they will brute force into it. The other representative stated they can also transfer and copy all the information onto a temporary hard drive then format the hard drive and then put it back in but i think it might be costy than removing the password.

does anyone know where i can find the program mastid.exe to generate the master password?

Also i heard that if you put the hard drive in the new Mac OS X program you can debug/hash your password with the method of hex numbers and things. So this would make it easier than buying an making a terminal cable for my Seagate.
