Is it possible dr company couldnt find more files then me?

November 26th, 2009, 17:22

i sent my first drive to this dr company, they said it had a head crash and wasnt accesible, sounded fishy, i dont know why but i didnt think they realy did anything.

so i sent them my old drive which i just deleted (it had all me old stuff minus this year). the data recovering company found exactly, and i mean realy exactly every file some freeware undelete program i used before i sent them ( i used it once and target disk was some other hard drive).
all i did was a regular delete of 20 gb, and i copied new 3gb to it, and it was virtually untouched.

so, is it possible the dr company cant find anything more than a freeware software or is it a realy bad, software only company?

thier search and mine (same results) found somthing like 20-30% of the data.

Hi,

The point is, when something was overwritten, than it is lost.
The amateur (freeware) softwares generally really good sometimes, but never hits any professional solutions.
And yes, there are some low level company which uses only these free tools, and trying to make some money, but the time will tell, this is not the good way, and the company needs to be closed or needs to be upgrade they knowledge to survive the challanges.

We often employ multiple recovery algorithms (programs) because some are better than recovering certain files than others; or some organize things better. A client may get two separate sets of recovered data. it pretty much depends upon the damage we see in the catalog.

Sometimes one program will get good directory structure, and another only gets raw (generic) files.

It's possible that your data recovery company used the same software you did!

my question is realy- shouldnt data recovery companies have better and more sophisticated programs?
souldnt good companies have better solutions then the freeware programs?
isnt there something more?

One should think so, on all 3 counts.

well if the TFI write head change the values bits "1 logical --> 0 or viceversa, its practicaly impossible revert the process, that means changes over flux at the media , changing the magnetic field from an "---> to a "<---" or vice versa so on that case practically its impossible return to the original magnetic field, that happends on a overwrite for example.

there are some theories about get the " remaining" and did some algorithms because heads not write always a " 1" or " 0" there are some " remaning " like 1.00x or 0.00x because inside HDD¨ are some mechanic´s parts , and would be possible get that remaining , applying algorithms to get the original , but like i told u practically its impossible :D
