What does this sound mean?

December 7th, 2009, 11:30

I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 that makes the enclosed sound. The disk does not show up in BIOS.
What do you think is wrong with this disk?

The soundfile you find here: http://mailstop.se/st7200-11.wav.

It sounds vey much like a serious head crash.

There's a slim chance it could be the PCB making the heads thrash about like this, but like I say...slim.

If it's a head crash, I would expect media damage.

As you're in Sweden I recommend Bosse (mr_spokk in the forum)

I think that the heads make alot of scratches to the platters

I am pretty sure about almost all your data are in the filter actually.... :(

Prepare yourself for 2 case:
1. allready unrecoverable
2. you need to play a biiig pack of money for someone who can help you at all.

Thank you all for your diagnoses. I was already afraid for this but wanted to have some professional opinions.
