Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Sorry for my English.
My ST380011A (firmware 3.04) is 5.5 years old and Seatools say it has been on 16000 hours.
In the last 10 days i've got a problem. The hard disk powers off by itself and on again in few seconds. Sometimes it does it just one time and sometimes it does it again and again. Energy saving options are off, both in Windows and in BIOS.
It makes the same noise (a little "click") than when I turn on my computer. It's NOT the same noise when it gets idle and then on again cause of the energy saving.
All Seatools test are ok (smart, short and long DST).
My question: it could be a software problem? I mean, is it possible to power down a drive by software? If it's not possible then it's a hardware problem for sure.

Thank you. I had know 3 computers with Seagate ST380011A. Two of them absolutely failed (lost all data) and mine, which is in the "last breath".

You can try to find someone from Spain to help you if there's any chance...
