My wife had this drive for less than a year and suddenly one day it stopped working. We tried it in our other computers... had a friend look at it and were told to take it to someone who could recover the data. Best price we found was 500 bucks or so at the time. This was over a year ago now. We didn't and still don't have that but the drive has over 300GB of photos on it.. she's a pro photographer. I've been trying to research the problem and everywhere I look there's a different answer so I was hoping to get some more insight here. The drive when plugged in will spin up.. it may beep a little it is hard to tell. The bios won't read it. There are no odd sounds... it doesn't click or anything. Just can't be read. Checked with seagate it isn't one of the ones "supposedly" that needs a firmware update either. Any ideas?

Honestly if you need these photos back you should start saving because its going to be very difficult for you to be able to diagnose this fault correctly over this forum and fix it without professional knowledge or tools. If the photos are less valuable than $500 bucks then it will be fine to start experiementing with the risk of losing everything.
