Hi

I got WD800BD-00MR1 Sata .Bios detect WDC ROM MODEL-UNICORN.
Hd information : WB800BD-00MR1
DATE:23 AUG 2007
DCM :DBBNTJCH
PCB :261-7013335-D00 AC
MOTOR #:1040C0FFX
MADE IN :MALAYSIA

DONOR HDD: WB800BD-00MR1
DATE:06 DEC 2007
DCM :HSCANTJCH
PCB :261-7013335-D00 AC
MOTOR #:1040-PBC0T
MADE IN :MALAYSIA

Note :Motor number is different

I swapped the pcb but I cannot work and also little sound.
Is this mean head problem ? or swap pcb to work it should the motor number much exactly.
If the head is defect can I used the door head to replace it (is the donor much exactly) ?

Hi,

If you don't match the motor model, this can be good and not enough as well, it depends....
Anyway, your information is not enough for understanding the case.
But i know, if you open the top lid in cleanroom, you will lost the heads's alignment, and the drive will never work until you solve the WD head alignment problem.
If you open it outside of the cleanroom, the alignment gone as well, but dust comes in from the air, and the platters will be scored.
With this, you will multiple the recovery price, so i suggest, if pcb swap not helps, stop at this point, and seek for professional help...

Anyway, it's not a PCB problem.
You can hear a little sound from your drive then it's detected as a UNICORN?

I bet you can't hear a normal calibration ?

Sounds like translator problem. Easy in the lab, hard at home.
