Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500Gb - stuck spindle motor

January 27th, 2010, 13:55

Guys n Girls

I have here the above mentioned drive that I believe has suffered a spindle seizure; the drive makes no attempt to spin (just a buzzing noise) despite swapping an identical, known working PCB off its partner drive (there were 2 identical drives in one enclosure) and the spindle motor area of the casing has some kind of lubricating fluid on it (did it leak out of the bearing enclosure?)

What would you do to recover this drive?

Thanks!

Do not open this at all. Send it to Sean he is in your area. I think if anyone can do this work he can that is if the heads are not crashed on this drive and then nobody can do this work at all for you. PM Sean and speak with him on this problem. Stop trying to start this drive it can only cause you more damage and a great loss of data if this has not already happened here.
