hi

Am actually new to this forum and basically I have been doing extensive research regarding on hard drives

However am kinda confused in some parts

basically I have a Maxtor Diamond Max plus 9 Hard drive

Which has basically just switched off itself

in other words the drive will no longer power up

I plugged into a USB external adapter to check and I am guessing that its a PCB issue

the reason being the drive was working perfectly fine and then all of sudden it just powered off and since then it wont power on at all

Now I have a second Dell machine which was bought exactly the same time and inside that Dell machine it has the exact Same drive

with the Same

Number on the EEProm chip

Same date

Same Code

Same Firmware on the sticker

Same size

Same Model Number

So my questions is that basically after reading a few threads on the forum it states that you would need to change / swap the chip over on the logic and that requires soldering.

So seeing as what I stated above regarding the exact same drive which I have.... Would I need to still Swap the chip over?

I have found a site which sells PCB and basically they have the exact PCB for my hard drive

here is the site: http://www.onepcbsolution.com

I done it and it worked like a charm. the issue was with the PCB and after swapping it over, it worked straight away without any problems at all.

Maxtor Plus 9 are very forgiving on PCB swap, mostly they do not have an external ROM.

You would have to transfer it over, which on these is fairly straightforward.
