How to erase bricked Seagate HD?

February 10th, 2010, 12:54

I have a Seagate 7200.11 that was bricked. I was able to use the tutorial and un-brick it and recover / backup all my data.

The problem is, I can no longer successfully un-brick the drive. I can perform the tutorial steps just fine and receive all the proper responses from the drive. But, once the drive is installed back in the computer it appears to be immediately bricked (BSY) again.

Now I need to return the drive for a warranty replacement.

How can I erase the data from the drive?

Are there commands that can be used in the terminal connection window that will erase data from the drive?

Thanks for any help.

I don't think the warranty will be honored after that though.

Dont worry about the data , the company doesnt have time to go through your data .

Thats pretty much what I figure too. I'd just like to damage the drive beyond the point where they can't use it at all, simply for the inconvenience they put me through.

I still have the voice coil magnet from a Control Data BK7 series storage module drive.

From memory, it measures 15cm x 15cm x 15cm, and weighs enough to anchor a boat.

It finds just about anything I drop on the floor.
