SUMMARY:
HDD detected by BIOS propertly. HDD detected by WXP as one having RAW filesystem(was FAT32). Everything else fails.

The only thing I would know how to do is analyze it in winhex. First compare sector 63 with sector 69. If they are different, copy sector 63 to an empty sector like 62 just to back up sector 63. Then copy sector 69 into sector 63 and see if that fixes it. If not, there are a lot of other things to look for. The main partition may not start at the beginning of the drive but it is pretty easy to find it if it doesn't. Partition table could also be wrong or you may have gotten a bad image. Post results.

Sectors 63 and 69 are slightly different. I dont even know how to use winhex that well but i can spot differences without using copare tool. Im not into writing anything on my HDD without making 100% restorable copy and to be honest im not sure what kind of software should i use to make that copy. I got free space on my other Hard Disks, there should be no problem with that. In fact i got strange feeling, that HDD had 255 heads shown in Testdisk, and Testdisk changed it into 240! Well, at least i guess so. Partition table: Yeah, i have tried to fix that but i couldnt. I had that software called PPTD Demo with fixboot utility, but fixboot failed in both modes. Testdisk wants to fix BS, but auto mode aint working and im not sure how to use manual mode. Lets just say that Testdisk is posting so many files, that manual searching for boot.ini would take few hours at best. Possibly more, and theres still no guarantee that it would find anything at all.

Also i am looking for some FREE software which will be able to restre my files. It must be WXP, and it must have GUI application. I have tried ZAR Demo, and its really cool - detects all files and such, but as its just demo i can only copy 4 subfolders with contents. And i need to copy much more than that.

Hi Zombie,

You MUST make a clone copy of the fireball drive and then work on the copy!

You want free tools so I suggest you use copyr.dma which works in dos to make the clone copy. Then you can mount the cloned copy in any windows pc and run any recovery software you fancy.
