WD-10EADS

Has anyone else found this problem?

Have here 4 new WD 1TB drives all same problem. They went out with in a two week period after installation.

A computer store here installed these HDD in clients computers when they sold them. With in a short period of time less than a week or two usage each drive now has problems with PCB board.

The drive is under warrenty and can be changed out on each one of them but the clients need back their data. I understand how to fix them but once this one is done and get back the data it will void the warrenty on them.

Just curious if anyone else has seen this problem where they work for a week to two weeks then the drive spins up comes ready then busy right away and spins down.

Also looking for PCB board for this one drive client does not care about his warrenty only his data on it.

I would guess the local computer store might have some more in stock?

Anyway I don't see how retrieving the data is going to void the warranty

I checked here on the islands, they come in batches, installed and gone right away on this one. They do not have this one here now they are all sold out of them. Here they order 100+ drives each of different capacity at a time, install or sell and then order new ones. We do not have a stock of drives in different models like else where. All that comes to the islands comes on boats. So when the container comes with 500 drives inside they are gone quickly here on the islands and it is hard to find them. Sorry on this one - but yah you are right it should not void the warrenty to get the data back on this one.

Gotcha. When I worked at a computer shop we had the same model (usually same family) in stock for some months. But I can see how it would be different at your island paradise
