WD Inquiry

February 15th, 2010, 18:03

We are a Data Recovery center located in Athens Greece. In past years the service center we ran used the Deepspar Imager to assist us in cloning drives for clients and installing them in their new systems. We found out that the demand for recovering drives by our clients is becoming higher and higher. A year or so back we purchased the PC3K with DE to help in the SA problems of drives and the repair issues we were finding. In recent years the drives have been limited to 90% WD drives here and 10% Seagate drives. It seems this is the majority of the drives we see coming into us here.

Our success rate on Seagate is fine after a lot of practice on the head changes in these drives. We have three technicians in our shop to do this work. I know that you can not measure success rate on any drive and it is hard to give numbers on this one. But after months of working on old drives the technique has been perfected in this area.

We now are working on WD head alignment issue. We have made a few advancements in this area and still have problems. After long weeks we can finally get a few of the drives aligned again.

I read on here a posting from a successful recovery for WD drives. I know there is some solutions to this drive alignment issue. I hear of a special tool that is used in this issue to make the alignment of the drive.

I am not asking for hand outs or spoon feeding as everyone here calls this. I am asking if the person who has made a tool for alignment issue is willing to sell this tool to me. I am interested in purchasing a tool to assist me in this problem and willing to pay for this tool.

I look forward to anyone that is willing to speak with me on this issue and offer any insight to this problem. We have made a lot of advancements in this area and we are willing to share our knowledge with you.

Hi there

There is a DR company in your area who seems to have mastered this problem.

Check out this post.

You might want to contact with him on this issue. I know that it is going to be hard to get anyone to help you out on head alignments here. This is a major problem for most DR companies and they are fighting with this issue each and every day. I think you are going to have to invest a lot of time and buy a lot of drives to practice on before you will get the hang of this problem.

You might want to read up and check on microjog and know that this function is available in the PC3k program for you.

Good luck on this one and hope that you can get some answers here.

TKX for your replay. I will check on this one. We are currently working with microjog on PC3K but this too has issues.

Yup what he said. And the reason the DR companies are fighting with the issue every day , is because the company that found the solution immediatly hides the knowlege and from time to time activly sabotages other companies advancements. Thats the capitalist way.

PS WTS MHDD any buyers ? =)

Thats the capitalist way.

Fixed that for you

That is a very interesting statement. I personally do not believe this to be true. I believe that who has the answers wants the work only for them at a very high price. I have received offers to take my drives and do the work for me. This was not what I was asking. I asked if there was a tool available and the person who has developed it was willing to sell me this tool for a price. If not I have no problem to continue my R & D developement on a tool for our company. We are making great advancements in this problem and I know one day the tool will be completed. It will take time but for me if nobody is willing to sell a tool then I have no other choice but to make one for myself. Then I will offer it for sale if anyone is interested in buying this from our company.
