St3320620as Repairing TVS 12V or using with UPS

February 21st, 2010, 20:37

Hi, this is my doubt.
I have this St3320620as drive with this Specs (Was External Free Agent Pro)
7200.10
P/N: 9BJ14G-568
Firmware: 3.AFK
Data Code: 07276
Site Code: TK

+5v 0.72a
+12v 0.52a

The thing was this. I plug the Lap's A/C Adapter to the external HD and the light turn on like 2 sec then shutdown the entire disk
i start to investigate and get noticed that the Logic was burned or something like that so i replace with one loaned and works , then
i had to give the logic back so i buy another logic sendin all the info to my seller , i got the logic like a month later and i put the logic to the HD but in the BIOS wasn't recognized i just ear the HD trying to work but nothing and the time normally in BIOS its about 3 sec and
when i connected the HD with the New Logic take about 1 minute. So i start to investigate what kind of logic he send me so i found thats was from a Seagate Barracuda 120gb 7200.9 +5v 0.46A +12v 0.56A model ST31202134S this is the number of that New Logic
100387565 W 3741T24L

Then i found the Seagate C. Forum and ask them for help and fzakbar help me out. Now i just take off the 12v diode of my BROKE logic(the original one) and my HD works fine but if i let it that way if a Power Surge comes my HD will be completely death and i want to know what kind of TVS can i weld, if i can use the TVS from the New Logic and if it's the same just to bought an UPS with Power Surge conectors???
Here is my logic number 100436228

Here's the Link of the Post in Seagate C. Forum and pics from the OriginalLogic and the NewLogic

Yes you can use the good TVS from the other PCB.

Just make sure you use the correct one (i.e. the 12v one if that's what blew) and connect it the right way round, there should be a line at one end of the component indicating polarity,
