Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi guys!
I got myself a Toshiba MK3006GAL via eBay, but all programs insist it's only a 16 GB drive instead of 30 GB. I tried to access it with MHDD, but as I only have a netbook, I had to attach the device - as well as the CD-ROM - via USB.
I used the Magic Boot Disc, but the Panasonic USB driver always hangs. It tells me
... Initializing Host Controller 1/5 ...
and that's it.

Anybody got a suggestion what I could do here?
Regards
Ben

Does this drive support HPA ?

Well, I've no idea. That's what I wanted to find out. But in the end, it's a normal 1,8" IDE drive, so it should, I guess?

Can you install the toshiba to your netbook? I am sure you can boot from USB memory sticks on these netbooks also, maybe you can run MHDD from a USB stick with your Toshiba installed to the netbook?
MHDD will tell you if HPA is active.

I guess I could, but then I'd need a SATA-to-1.8"-PATA adapter. I ordered a 3.5" to 1.8" IDE adapter instead, so I can fit the drive in my normal desktop computer. Once I get home, that is, which won't be any sooner than middle of April. I hate to wait! ;-(

Hiren's boot CD (version 9.0 or better) has a better DOS USB driver. Choose more->DOS->DOS (USB support). Try option 1, and check "newer computer" setting in the USB driver screen. The old version that you have only supported USB 1.0 and 1.1, the newer version also supports USB 2.0.
