wd400 00DEA0

hey guys hows it going, I'm new here. I have a WD400 00DEA0 that reads in device manager but nowhere else..... i've downloaded the wd hd repair but it still doesn't read.... I've tried everything i can possibly think of. The history on the drive is it had Windows XP Pro and crashed about a year ago and sat idle, now if i have the drive as a master and try to reformat it and load windows xp, Vista, or 7 it says unable to access the drive.

Thanks for taking the time to help a noob......
