Power supply went out so I replaced it. I hooked two pwrs to my HDD. It screamed. Had to replace it, but need the data off the old HDD. Still have old one but is not recognized. The board gets very warm with no spin. Bought a logic board for same model but different DCM it spins and does not get warm and is still not recognized by my computer. It states something like insert system disk when I try to boot up. I have been told to replace the BIOS chip in the board with the old one. Where is the BIOS chip on the WD2500KS Logic board and is it replaceable by a not so hot computer savy individual?
It is a WD2500KS-00mjb0 WD Caviar SE16 27 Dec 2007

And of course any other info would be appreciated.
A newbie to the forum and thanks in advance! ! ! ! !

All you can do is to swap the PCB with a compatible one and swap U12 if the PCB has it installed.
If not, there is no other easy option, u'd better take the drive for professional recovery before you screw it up more.
There are some topics on board replacements, check those first.

I am not much of a computer wiz so is the flash the same as the BIOS chip or something different.
I appreciate your info. Thanks!

If you are not sure, please be careful. You can kill that chip in just a few seconds if you mishandle it. I sent you what you were asking via PM.
