Formatted NTFS to Mac,lost all files

I have done a really stupid thing,i formatted my external HHD that contained all my pics music etc to Mac extended journaled,have i lost all my media or is there a way around this and get it all back,,

Shouldn't be much of a problem to get data back unless you did a LOW LEVEL format (which is NOT the default).

A low level format will be fine just don't use it until you got your data back. Any additional security selected whilst performing the format would overwrite your data.
