WD - PCB replacement + pictures

March 30th, 2010, 13:33

Hi All,

I have this hard drive

On the green PCB two of the chips are brunt (which easily can be seen as burnt).

I want to buy from ebay one of those of hard drives in order to swap the pcb.

What is the correct one?

I think that this is the best match: (not sure)

New details which I've got from a friend:

"That one has a different DCM:
http://www.harddrive-repair.com/hard-drive-parts.html

Yours is DHNNNT2AHN

The one you linked to is DBRNHT2AAN:
DCM: DBRNHT2AAN

PCB: 2061-701444-700 AD - on the barcode sticker

2060-701444-004 Rev. A on the PCB

There is contrasting info on the DCM last few (3 or 5) digits needing to be the same, but this should apply only for a head swap:
western-digital-pcb-swap-rule-t8951-20.html

Your PCB is 2061-701444-700 AD, so it is matching.

It's the right PCB, electronically speaking.

The word "unique" means "one of a kind", "no two the same". This is referring to the information programmed into the ROM. With this uniqueness in mind, WD has placed copies of this ROM data on the platters in firmware modules.

You CANNOT access this information without the appropriate knowledge and tools, there is no DIY solution for this.

Do not waste your money on replacement PCB's, 99% certain they will not work.

Remove the PCB and upload a photo of the component side.

If the TVS diode and fuse are damaged, then the repair will be an easy DIY.

Is it possible to take parts from a diffrent pcb?
Such WD 320 GB whereas the original PCB is WD 500 GB?
