Seagate ST3500418AS 500GB 7200.12 not spinning !

April 6th, 2010, 3:13

Hi ,

I have a Seagate ST3500418AS 500GB 7200.12 which is not being detected on PC , I had tried external HDD casing too and other PC too but problem persists.

I have a important data on it and want to recover the same.

I was suggested that to replace the PCB and try to recover the data. Can I use any seagate 500 GB PCB or it should be of same model ?

Help PlZZZZZZ!

Norman

Does your drive buzz or vibrate as if trying to spin up?

Does it prevent your PC from POSTing?

Can you see any damage on the component side of the circuit board?

If you replace the board, you will need to transplant the serial EEPROM chip (flash) from patient to donor. This is because it stores unique, drive specific calibration data.

See the following article for help in identifying the components.
