Lost TWO drives within one month. Help..

April 7th, 2010, 0:54

I started having problems with my backup (Maxtor) drive. I didn't have a change to replace my backup drive and boom my main drive goes poof (Seagate).. I have a few years of family photos that were not backed up to DVD, I can't afford to have a data recovery firm look at it so here I am.. I'm hoping someone can have a listen to the audio files and give me some suggestions.

I have a link for a MP3 file of the hard drive sounds as they start, I have run DIAG's off Hiren's boot CD and both drives don't even register with the SEAGATE and MAXTOR software on the CD.

This one belongs to MAXTOR not SEAGATE.

This one belongs to SEAGATE not MAXTOR.

I think both have heads problem and needs an interference by a pro.

Thanks for listening, just curious, can you tell the drive types by the recording? If I am having heads problems is their anything that I can DIY or is a specialist the best solution? I was hoping it was a PCB issue but I gather you don't think that's the case?

IMO, it's 95% heads or media damage and 5% PCB.

Only specialist near you can decide that. Sorry there's nothing you can do with this issue.

Good luck.

Agree. But need to see the drive to be precise.
