Samsung 2.5 PATA HDD HELP

April 8th, 2010, 14:08

Hi Everyone,

I have 80 gig Samsung PATA Hard drive working with my Dell Inspirion, its almost 3 years and few days ago I decided to get a new one. I ordered from Amazon 160G Samsung PATA and arrived yesterday. When I try to install it, I realised that it is not compatible and I couldnt be able to figure that out!....

I hope someone can be able to provide an advice in order to get integrate with this new HDD. I attached the relevant images which is my old hard drive. It says PATA on it but I havent seen any PATA drive like this...

As far as I understood the new one that I bought is IDE (PATA) but my laptop motherboard is really different PCO, presumably. (its not SATA by the way). What is it called, I wonder...!

I would be highly appreciated if anyone can comeup with any advice.

Thank you.

You have an adapter attached to your original drive.
Just remove it and attach to new one.

Thx for the response but here is the problem. It is indeed an adaptor but it's not come off. I just dont understand - why ? I tried but it is not removable. Its one piece. Never seen like this one... Seriously.

Go to your local computer shop, I am sure they will be able to do it for you for free.

some of those 2.5s need a reasonable ammount of force aplied to the adapter to pull it out. In all the time i havent seen a single integrated adapter like this. So u should be able to remove it.
