Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500G burned out

April 9th, 2010, 8:50

Hello everyone, I am lucky to find this forum. I got an emergency here because my drive is fried due to a power supply. Now everytime I plug in my Barracuda it short out the power supply. I have to unplug the power supply in order to boot the machine.

I read the TVS diode might be bad, I just want to double check to see if that is the case. I attached 2 pics for review and circled 2 components that I think TVS diodle.

Should I test it before de-soldered? I don't want to break anything more. Thanks.

You are right on both cases. Use volt meter and test then remove
