fIX HDD PROBLEMS

I'm having some problems with my hdd. it's got 2 partition, and one of then, where all my information and personal data is located, seems to have cross linked files. i was trying to resize the partition when the computer switched off accidentally, and since then i can not get to my documents. Easus partition says it has cross likend files. Im trying to fix the problem, but I can not use chkdsk, when i open properties, then tools, and then scandisc, the window get closed automatically, and i have tried so many programs to at least recover the documents .... i also tried the comand cmd, then chkdsk..... but it's wrong. i even have the exactly bad sector, so could it be possible to delete those bad sectors???

dont really know whats going on. so please, if anybody here could help me. thanks

Clone your drive and then work on the clone.

When you have cross linked files, it means that two or more files are claiming ownership of the same sectors. In this case you need to copy the affected files to another drive, and then test each file to see which one is OK, if any.

If you have a large number of bad sectors, then you will need cloning software that can skip over bad patches in the media. dd_rescue is one such tool that is able to do this:

do what Fzabkar suggested. Logical issue with a working drive is perfectly DIYable. Just make sure u are working on a clone.

thanks for your answer, but I have no acces to the partition. it seems not to have format, so I can not clone it. could it be possible to format it without losing data? this is so weird!!

U need to use a bit copy soft. Try CopyR or HDclone.

I´ve been trying the programs, but they dont copy anything. after all the process, the "target" is empty.

After the cloning process you have to mount the target drive in windows and run software recovery tools on it.
It might be those free tools are not up to the job so I suggest you use Get Data Back or R studio or something else suitable which will do a deep scan and search for all the partition information as well as the file structure. Failing that you might have to carry out a raw recovery.

I suggest using dd_rescue or media tools pro to image the WHOLE drive sector-by-sector to a good one.

If this doesn't work then it's beyond DIY and you need assistance from someone with pro tools.

Create an UBCD4WIN on a known clean Windows computer.
Use this Win boot disk to copy your sectors or delete them.

Can copy or delete sectors.
Will show the number of partitions.

If you have a 32bit linux you could also try iBored from a LiveCD.

Bad sectors can contain data that is needed. chkdisk recovers any data from bad sectors.
Not all bad sectors are physically bad, Windows write errors create bad sectors also.
