I have a 120GB Fujitsu drive that came in. I've measured all of the fuses, diodes and resistors on the board, but I can't seem to find a fault anywhere. The drive does not power up at all, and I verified that the heads were not seized to the platters. So there is a problem, either with the PCB or the motor itself.
I don't have a compatible PCB here, and the only one that I could find to purchase was off of the same model drive, but with a slight variance in the firmware. I've always either repaired these boards, or swapped them out with an identical board with identical firmware and moved the ROM. Will the difference in firmware be an issue on these drives? Also, on this particular model, there are two chips that could possibly contain the ROM data, I'm pretty sure I have it labeled as "B" on the photo below, but there is another 8-pin chip there which I have labeled as "A".
If there are any suggestions on additional components I should test, in order to determine what may have shorted out on this it would be greatly appreciated. I think I've checked everything component wise, and the only thing I plan to do next is apply power to the board and check voltage reading from the motor controller back. Thanks in advance.
