Hi everyone!
I have a WD hard disk and it doesn't work because the TVS diode (D3) was burnt and I want to change it.
Can I change it with other diode?

hi,
yeah. you can. or you can just remote it only.

You can remove it but note your HDD will not be protected. Remove and get off data on HDD

You can replace a 12V TVS diode with an SMBJ12A, and a 5V TVS diode with an SMAJ5.0A. Both are available from Farnell, Mouser, Digikey.
There may also be an open zero ohm resistor next to the diode.
If you can upload a detailed photo, one of us will help you identify it.

Thank you very much.
I'll do that.I hope I can fix it.

Hey, I have a Seagate ST35000320AS drive that needs the SMAJ5.0A TVS Diode. Now I see a ton of different types with different end codes like TR, CA etc and I'm not sure if this is a big deal or I need to be more precise. I found a SMAJ5.0A-TR from digikey, would this be sufficient?
http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/149636 ... 0a-tr.html Oh and thanks a lot fzabkar! The info you've given on the seagate forums got me this far. Desoddered the diode and the drive powered on great! Now it's time to permafix it.

Here is the datasheet for the SMAJ5.0A diode:
http://www.st.com/stonline/products/lit ... 4/smaj.pdfSee page 6 for information on part number nomenclature.
You need the "A" (Unidirectional) part.
The "TR" suffix denotes Tape and Reel. This only matters if you're ordering a big quantity for a production line.
The SMAJ5.0A-TR from Digikey is the one you want.
Just be sure to line up the polarity stripe with the "v" on the Seagate PCB.
