snapped L shaped guide off my sata connector- dang

May 31st, 2010, 14:10

Ok I snapped the plastic L shaped guide of my sata connector on my wd 80080, it looks like the best option is to replace the pcb, but I guess that’s not a straight swap out right? the pcb part#
2060-701335-005 rev r. Its not super critical to fix this drive it just would be nice, it has a bunch of photos on it and I'm not sure how much of it I have backed up! So what do you see as my options.
thanks

Hi,
You need to replace the pcb and also the U12 chip that contains the unique drive info.
But some drives with the U12 chip present has not unique info stored there but in the main chip with an M on it (Marvel), if so you need someone at a DR firm to replace the unique info for you...or hotair soldering & steady hand

Or put a SATA to Molex adaptor in (the right way) and glue it instead of changing the whole PCB if everything else is OK. It won't move and you have a "tail" on the drive, but it's gonna cost few cents....

Of course if the connector itself is not totally broken :)

Be extra careful as NOW without the edge you can put the connector upside down (POOOF !!)

BlackST that works if it's the Pwr side, but I think he ment the Sata (data-line) connector.
