Hard disk auto hibernate/power off

June 4th, 2010, 23:11

Hi,

I have a WD 1.5TB SATA hard drive (WD15EARS) with a Startech enclosure http://www.startech.com/item/UNI3510U2E ... h-OTB.aspx

I find that sometimes the hard disk will automatically power off/sleep which will require me to off and on the power button on the enclosure. This normally happens when I have not been using the disk for awhile. But I've also encountered this problem when I search for a file on the disk.

Both the hard disk and enclosure are approximately 2.5 months old. Does it sound like a defective enclosure or hard disk?

Thanks!

Check your settings for the power/screen saver and hard disk..you may have set it to turn off after a certain time.

Hope this helps.
