Went on vacation and powered the desktop down for a week. Got back and it would not boot - the usual disk spin up and 6 clicks-then down and up and 2 clicks.
The bios did not recognize the drive. I found this place and SOMEWHERE I read someones advice to make sure the power supply was not loaded down, so the drive could get all the power needed to start.
I disconnected on of my DVD writers and all USB except keyboard and mouse, and VOILA!! The drive booted. Now to get my DATA!!!!

Good Job
(Both recovering your data and actually searching the forums first
