Current Monitor

Hello everyone,

I have been reading the posts on this forum for some time now, and I must say that it is very interesting. I would like to purchase or build some type of current monitor; Possible with a molex connector. A quick google search did not display much. From my undertanding the Atola and the Deepspar have this ability. Is there a standalone hardware that I can purchase just for Monitoring the current with some graphics, or is this somewhat easy to build?

You can use a "high side current sensor" chip as is commonly used in battery monitoring circuits. However this relies on a series resistor which will slightly reduce the supply voltage, unless it is fitted inside the PSU, before the voltage sensing point.

Alternatively, there is a nonintrusive method using a "Hall effect current sensor". For lower currents, the relatively low output of such sensors can be multiplied by looping additional turns of the current carrying conductors through the core.
